A Challenging Week

My People are working my nerves big-time this week.

First they bring out these noisy sticks which they blow on one end and make ugly sounds together. (They call this "recorder music".) Whatever. It's disturbing my naps in any case.

I get out my iPod and listen to Enya's version of the song "How Much is that Kitty in the Window?" with the repeat on until they stop.

These sticks sound like birds trapped in a cage. This gets me all excited. My People don't know if my meowing is because of wanting to eat birds (always!) or whether it's because I want them to stop playing.

Let them figure it out!

The second thing is that they take me to the dreaded V-E-T to fix this little problem with an abscess I have for a while now.

As you cats can imagine, I do not like the V-E-T. Who does?

My People take me out of my comfortable, tastefully-decorated Airstream space, out to the cold car, then down the noisy highway to the animal hospital. I do not like strange places. They look and smell funny and I don't like the garish institutional lighting.

The worst part is when my People leave me with this strange person in a white coat with funny thingie hanging down her neck (which I am NOT in the mood to play with!) and then she pokes and prods me. She does pet me to try to calm me down but I am a monster.

I rule!

The next thing I know I am in a cage, in a little room with a lot of cages with cats and dogs in them, and I've got this tube sticking out of me where the abcess is.

Talk about unsightly. And definitely undignified.

My People finally come to pick me up and I am feeling spacey from the sedative. I do not even meow to greet them. Plus, I am mad.

People #1 sits behind that round thing in the car, twisting and turning it around, while I sit in People #2's lap on the other seat.

I am so glad to be back in my familiar space. Now if I can only get this tube out of my neck...

Here's a couple pics from happier times the day before:

"So, ya wanna take my picture -- AGAIN?"

"Okay, you can post these pictures because they're BEFORE I go to the V-E-T!!"

Poor Rupert. Humans are treacherous. Tell the tooting recorder maniacs that cats have a much bigger hearing range than apes and the higher pitched recorder sounds hurt your ears, that's why you miaow. it's distress. Hope the abcess has finally gone and normal service will be resumed

You do RULE!

I am sad that you have to get a drain for your abscess. I hope it gets all better soon. In the meantime, you should get lots and lots of extra treats.

Hey, sorry that you had to go to the vet. I did too. Yuck!!!! now I am in hiding. Recorder? Hmm, not music to a cat's ear.

Good to see you at the party, though. You should have one too, when you are better.

Hi Rupert

I'm enjoying getting caught up on your blog.

I'm sorry about your vet experience. I don't mind the vet too much--but I hate it when Kelly and John sing and play the harmonica thingy. I wish that I had headphones like you so that I could drown out the noise!

Stay furry!

Woah what a time you have had.. I do not think I would like the recorders either... them even hurts the Mommas ears! :)
My sisfur who has passed had a tube hanging out of her tummy for awhile, Momma says that she had to push out gently around the tube to squeeze all the gunk out.. it was pretty yukky and is only for a little while, but it healed up all nice.
I did not get to see it :(

Omygoodness we hear you on the alleged 'music' of the humans. Our mum has been playing Christmas carols. Which wouldn't be bad, except that she SINGS ALONG! I swear, when she starts, all the dogs in the street start too.

We hope your abscess is well on the way to recovery. It can't have been fun at the V-E-T. ("Institutional lighting"- haha!).

Poor Rupert! I hope you feel better soon; abscesses are nasty things. You should claw someone, just to let them know they can't be treating you like that and expect to get away with it.

I don't like the sound of recorders either even though I'm a bean. I mean, there are so many beautiful instruments out there, why would anybean torture a kitteh's ears with a recorder? Sheesh!

Hope your abscess is all drained and gone now! :) xxx

Oh Rupert!! I hope you are getting better after that harrowing trip to the Vet!!!!! I don't like going there either !
It's good you have your own iPod ;)
Maybe you can relax while you get better by listening to something you like :)

I am so sorry to hear about your vet visit. I know how it is. And I hear I have to go back tomorrow morning for my teeth cleaning. I know what that means....I will be starved all night with no food! And then I will lose part of my life being sedated. Can I come and hide out at your house?

Does this mean your humans will be getting coal in their stocking this Christmas?

We hope your abcess heals and you don't have to go through this any more.
